It never ceases to amaze me how many women come into my practice and ask ‘how soon can you take a pregnancy test?’. This is something that I get at least once a day and I literally have a stack of booklets under my desk that gives them all of the information that they need when it comes to obtaining an accurate result from a pregnancy test. Most of these women, or younger girls as a lot of them are, are sat there in front of me scared out of their wits as they think that their life is about to go down the pan after one mistake in the bedroom. As their doctor I end up realising that it is a false result for the vast majority of them, but of course there is always the percentage of them that end up finding out that they are with child and that their life is about to change forever.
